Postcards from the Ozarks:

* The Branson area is the setting of a novel written in 1907 by Harold Bell Wright that uniquely touched the heart of millions of readers in that day.  Newly emerging from the elaborate living of the Victorian era, 1907 marked the infamous financial panic where the New York Stock exchange fell 50% in a year and nearly collapsed, and many banks went bankrupt.  America was in a recession. "The Shepherd of the Hills" brought people to the Ozarks to see where Old Matt lived and to refresh their spirits as he did.  The book gave the Ozarks a tourist boon that lasts to this day.
